Charles & Ray Eames 1948

History Charles and Ray Eames designed La Chaise in 1948 for a Museum of Modern Art competition. But it is only since 1991 that Vitra has been manufacturing small quantities of the design in serial production. La Chaise is suitable for both sitting and lying on. Its organic shape was inspired by "Floating Figure", a sculpture by Gaston Lachaise. Technical Description Two fibreglass shells, fixed together and painted white. Chrome-plated tubular steel frame, natural solid oak crossed-shape base. Chaise Longue 1948, know where the hole is for.. to pet your dog.

Charles and Ray Eames are best known for their contributions to architecture, furniture and industrial design. But the legacy of this husband and wife team also includes more than 75 films that reflect the breadth and depth of their interests. Included are Powers of Ten, probably one of the most seen short films of the post-war era, and Toccata for Toy Trains -- two brilliant examples of the Eameses' skill, creativity, and far-reaching interests.
